The Seven
Churches
This body
of work patterns itself after medieval altar
pieces and can be set up to be viewed open or closed upon hourly
(or whatever) intervals. This format was inspired from the biblical reference from the
Book of Revelation as well as from the architectural-like structure it gave to the
contemporary idea of "church".
There are two churches without any shortcomings:
PHILADELPHIA and SMYRNA. The outside of these two pieces
are painted to emulate the Cherubim on the Ark from the days of the Tabernacle. This
signifies the ever presence of the Lord over these obedient churches in spite of personal
plight and strife.
The outside of the other five have the Angel of the Lord fighting with the assigned
messenger or angel of each church, which echoes Jacob, the Supplanted, wrestling with the
Angel of the Lord in Genesis. This is to suggest that each individual or corporate body
needs to self-evaluate in order to purge the flesh of any remaining darkness so that he
can receive his promised reward, keep eyes fixed on Jesus, endure to the end. As in Romans
7 - 8 ... each of us has inner struggles which can only be worked out by the Grace of God.
Each church letter represents the Lord with particular attributes which
correspond to the particular shortcoming peculiar to that body. In my research I found
that the name of each city had specific characteristics which helped to explain the
concern the Lord was addressing. I have attempted to show all the spiritual contrasts
within each church so that they could both pertain to any individual as well as the body
at large. These contrasts, derived from concepts found throughout the bible, are meant to
provoke and pierce the heart of religiousness so that the sincere will repent and endure
to the end.
My hope and prayer is that these pieces could inform
non-Believers of the true faith in God and perhaps provoke some
to jealousy so that they will join the Kingdom of true Believers. But they were written
with the church in mind to remind each to work out a life of faith with fear and
trembling--that short of loving the Lord with all one's heart, soul, and strength could
end in eternal strife.

 | The Seven Seals
The
first seven judgments are the breaking of the Seals as the world
enters in a new era, revealing the preliminary labor pains of
"The Day of the Lord."
The
Star of David was the appropriate reference for the overall shape of
this set since the time of the Gentiles is fulfilled. The first four
paintings are the familiar "Four Horsemen." Rather than
focusing on the horses, I focused on the props that the men were
carrying as they were beckoned to go over all the earth with their
judgments.

The Seven Trumpets
The second seven judgments act as warnings or alarms to hearken
mankind to turn from his own way and return to the beckoning of GOD
before it is too late.
Each trumpet warns about a different aspect of the earth's judgment
and destruction during the process of occurrence.

The
Seven Bowls
The
Greek word for bowl can also be translated to mean vial. So I took the
liberty of using these two shapes to imply the same concept in the
third series.
These are the last seven judgments before the Great Armageddon
of the last battle, and at this point those who have hardened their
hearts shake their fists at GOD and refuse to repent.
What is portrayed here is the pouring out of wrath from these bowls or
vials as if the wrath itself is frozen in time. The freezing of time
was the only way I could think to include an element of hope.
The
color in general is also more heightened as
if to warn or wake up an awareness as to the meaning of these events.
The shapes are more animated and fit more congruently into
one another in making the whole image. Less collage but more texture
and gold leaf was used to describe the surface. This is my way of
stating the other-worldly nature of mankind.
The "Seven Bowls" are the last ticks of the clock and are
designed to be more emotively experiential for all to witness.

The
Seven Interludes
|
The introduction
to the Book of Revelation tells us that John was "in the
spirit". This first painting is to depict each seeker taking off their
Lazarus burial cloths and thus being transformed by the Blood of the Lamb, which
is activated by the fire and water of the Holy Spirit as God ordained, by sending
His only Son to die for our sins once and for all. The ultimate response
is adoration!
The
little Scroll is bitter and sweet --it reveals the terrible times for
those who don't repent.
The
Two Witnesses' story surround the Living Torah who is Yeshua Hamashiach
--they come back helping the Jews to realize that for all these years they
have been adorning the Living God when the have adorned their
Torahs---what glory when the Jew and Gentile finally realize who their God has
been pointing to (Jesus) in order to create us all (Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, etc.) in Him as One New Man!
The
Mark of the sheep is of God, but the Mark of the Goat is of Satan--God's
Son whom we were made in His Image, will reap the harvest and distinguish
between the two! These marks will be supernaturally and physically discerned as
a mark of the Lamb or a mark of the Beast. In this kitschy image, the viewer has to raise the forehead of the sheep or goat in order to see the mark. Jesus ' feet wade in the shed blood
which reaches as tall as a horses head overflowing the winepress of life, after the two harvests are finsihed. The first Harvest of the grain could be the Rapture and the harvest of the Grapes of Wrath are those whose blood seems to avenge for the evil of mankind, just as the blood of Abel cried out as a witness against Cain who killed him over the issue of an unacceptable offering unto the Lord.
The Armageddon
is fought "not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit" even is
man tries to fight it his own way....The winepress is full; the Army of the
Lord returns as "all" is fulfilled from Genesis to Revelation in the
scriptures. Whether or not you believe it, the Bible's scriptures have set all of humanity's
purpose and plan in motion since before the start of time...The Cross overshadows
the Banquet table as wells as finishes its work upstream so all can enjoy
the healing of the twelve trees of the New Eden in the New Jerusalem.
For
these first four images, I used the grid wherein I have placed painted the Seven Headed Dragon Beast on plexi panels directly
over panels depicting but never reaching the Woman Clothed in the Sun in
his pursuit against her. The dragon is perpetually on the chase but always frustrated by
divine intervention. Whatever he tries to do is fragmented and diluted by the transparent
grid and thus is physically thwarted--he can never reach her. Even as the Israelites and
Jesus were sent to the desert the woman is chased there to learn how God's love provides
for her every need--even eagle's wings to hide and escape quickly from the counterfeit
(i.e. of the Holy Spirit's rivers of flowing water) gushes of water the Dragon hurls at
her to no avail.
Mosaic also uses this grid format so I use this recently reinstated art form
to depict the
War in Heaven instrumented by the rage of the Serpent-like Dragon. Ironically it isn't
even necessary for the War in Heaven to be fought by God; but rather His Archangel is sent. The serpent or the Devil is hurled to earth for his last destructive finale against
this offspring who understand this "One New Man " concept. I portray this image by using larger tiles with a painted mosaic placed directly on the top cover of the Ark of
the Covenant which known as the Mercy Seat of God. The Word tells us that we are saved by the word of our testimony and the Blood of the Lamb.
The Mercy Seat is to remind mankind that God is ultimately loving and full of mercy to
those who humble themselves towards Him and that the Ark with its' tablets, manna, and
staff are still in tack figuratively and spiritually for all mankind with the Cherubim
interceding for everyone all day and night. The art piece , "The Huppah", bids us
to come to the wedding wearing the robes of redemption already provided for any who would
believe that the Gospel is the Truth that can set us free from the snares and wiles of
Satan. Faith is the ONLY thing that pleases God.
The
Whore of Babylon
The
Lineage of Women: The Great Birthing
The
seven thrones are derived from the periodic text which invoke our response
of worship to our only true God. In these sections, God makes it clear our
eternal purpose and place for worshipping Him and all glory and honor due
His Name. These are glimpses amidst judgment and terror to encourage and
keep us focused on THE Plan of salvation we must work out in fear and
trembling, enduring to the end....
